Overland Security Services has operated locally since 1947
in providing investigative, uniformed security, and
informational services to business and industry.
Overland Investigation Bureau was founded by Bruno J.
Zemaitis, (1917-2004). Mrs. Beth Zemaitis (1924-1996) was
the chief administrator of the business until her retirement
in 1994. In addition to operating Overland, Mr. Zemaitis
held membership and/or office in a number of industry
business organizations.
Due
to his work on the Central Coast, Mr. Zemaitis has the
distinction of being one of the few individuals to have been
deputized as a Deputy Sheriff in both Santa Barbara and San
Luis Obispo Counties, at the same time. This was due to his
presence in the rural areas of the county line, including
Oceano, the Nipomo Mesa and Guadalupe Dunes.
Overland started operation as a merchant's patrol service.
Operations were, in general to secure the doors and windows
of the many shops in Santa Maria's downtown shopping
district. In addition, Overland provided security to farms
and ranches throughout the Santa Maria Valley and Southern
San Luis Obispo County.
Mr.
Zemaitis was among the first civilians in this area to
receive training in the operation of the Polygraph, or Lie
Detector. He completed his training in 1964 at Long Beach
College, now University, and returned to Santa Maria
introduce this service to the Central Coast. The
introduction of the Polygraph to this area is among the many
achievements of Mr. Zemaitis. Throughout his career, Mr.
Zemaitis has used his resources talents, and abilities to
assist local law enforcement in fighting crime in this area
and making the Central Coast a better place to live.
In
1991, Bruno's eldest son, Edward returned to Santa Maria to
assist with the management and operation of Overland.
Edward’s background includes military service, business
operations, sales and work with charitable and non profit
organizations. Edward resides in Santa Maria, has a daughter
and four grandchildren.
Following the passing of Bruno Zemaitis in 2004, Edward
purchased Overland Investigation Bureau, changed the name to
Overland Security Services, LLC and continues to operate
under this namestyle while carrying on the best traditions
of the security industry.
Overland has been and will continue to be a dynamic
organization. The advantage of Overland is that decisions
effecting the organization and clients can be made on short
notice without the limitations of a large organization.
Overland prides itself on having a personal relationship
with each of their clients.
